01 / OVERVIEW

A server became a whole world.

AvengeTech began in 2015, when Minecraft Bedrock Edition was still known as Minecraft Pocket Edition and was primarily played on mobile devices. What started as a Factions server grew to more than 200 concurrent players within approximately a month.

The project expanded into a network with Factions, Prisons, and multiple PvP experiences. It was a substantial software engineering effort, as well as an online business and community operation.

02 / TIMELINE

Built, grown, rebuilt.

The story spans both the original network and a ground-up game mode rewrite.

2015

The first launch

A Factions server launched in the Minecraft Pocket Edition era. More than 200 concurrent players joined within approximately its first month.

Original network

A growing community

Factions, Prisons, and PvP experiences. Peak concurrency exceeded 900 players.

March 2017

Starting from scratch

A complete rewrite of the game modes began with KitPvP, then Prisons, with SkyBlock added later.

Rewritten network

A new foundation

The rewritten network reached more than 300 concurrent players.

03 / ARCHITECTURE

Engineering beyond the game.

The network initially ran on PocketMine, Minecraft server software written primarily in PHP. The work included game mode development, backend systems, and MySQL databases. I also used Java for parts of the network, including proxy communication.

Linux administration, deployment, maintenance, and production infrastructure supported the player experience. Detailed architecture diagrams and code examples will be added when original project material is available; no unverified infrastructure details are shown here.

04 / GAME MODES

Different modes. A shared community.

The original network included Factions, Prisons, and multiple PvP modes. The 2017 rewrite started with KitPvP and then Prisons; SkyBlock followed later.

Factions

The mode that started the original network.

KitPvP

The first game mode in the March 2017 rewrite.

Prisons

Part of the original network and an early focus of the rewrite.

SkyBlock

Added after KitPvP and Prisons in the rewritten network.

05 / REWRITE

The work behind the rewrite.

In March 2017, I began rewriting AvengeTech's game modes from scratch. KitPvP came first, followed by Prisons and later SkyBlock.

The rewritten network reached over 300 concurrent players. This was a separate period from the original network's peak of over 900; the figures describe different versions of the project.

06 / COMMUNITY

People are part of the system.

Running AvengeTech involved community management, moderation systems, customer support, and volunteer staff management alongside the technical work.

A volunteer team helped with moderation, community support, and customer support. The network's operation depended on this work as much as it depended on the software.

07 / OPERATIONS

A business from the early days.

AvengeTech generated enough revenue to cover its operating costs from its earliest days. The responsibilities included monetization, customer support systems, product and game design, maintenance, and business operations.

The project brought engineering decisions into direct contact with the needs of a live community and a self-sustaining operation.

08 / RESPONSIBILITIES

What I was responsible for.

Development and operations connected every part of the project.

Development

Server development, game modes, backend systems, MySQL, Java for proxy communication, product and game design.

Infrastructure

Linux administration, deployment, maintenance, and production operations.

Community

Community operations, volunteer staff management, moderation and support systems.

Business

Monetization, customer support, and the day-to-day work of keeping the network running.
